Conclusions By systematically comparing the particle shape and evaporation kinetics of SOA derived from OH oxidation of different terpenes, we have elucidated a clear trend in SOA viscosity as follows: α-pinene < β-ocimene < β-caryophyllene < β-farnesene, and a corresponding inverse trend in volatility: α-pinene > β-ocimene > β-caryophyllene > β-farnesene.
