Simultaneously, prescription drug misuse is rising among young people, an important trend in the context of the ongoing opioid epidemic which prompted regulatory changes in Australia, including the 2018 reclassification of codeine to prescription-only in an effort to curb rising misuse (particularly among adolescents) [ 15 – 17 ].
