Mfn1 overexpression and Mff knockdown, both of which produced markedly over-elongated axonal mitochondria, resulted in increased mitochondrial Ca 2+ uptake following stimulation compared to both disease and control groups, whereas Mfn2 overexpression, which caused only slight elongation, showed a trend toward increased Ca 2+ uptake, although the difference was not statistically significant.
