At day 28, the PBS control group displayed pronounced corneal opacity obscuring the underlying iris (haze score = 2.4 ± 0.54), and the rhEGF-treated positive control group exhibited even more pronounced opacity (haze score = 2.8 ± 0.45), although the difference between these two groups did not reach statistical significance ( Fig. 3 D).
