To avoid the possibility that the CES-DC and STAI-CH self-report scales was too difficult for 1 child aged <5 years, we conducted the same analysis without that child and found that the effect of age on the depression symptoms still showed a strong trend but was not significant ( F 1,71 =3.495; P =.07), while the gender effect was still significant ( F 1,71 =4.68; P =.03).
