25 – 33 Six studies reported significant improvement in 1 or more outcomes with rhPDGF-BB 25 – 27 , 30 , 32 , 33 ; the other 3 studies reported moderate benefits, but did not reach statistical significance. 28 , 29 , 31 Tavelli et al. 30 , 32 published 2 of the largest meta-analyses—63 and 150 studies, respectively—evaluating rhPDGF-BB across broad indications within periodontal and oral surgery, and concluded that rhPDGF is a safe and effective approach for the treatment of bone defects and gingival recession.
