Essential hypertension, neoplasms, ischemic heart disease, diabetes mellitus, chronic kidney disease, vitamin D deficiency, obesity, alcohol-related disorders, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease did not reach statistical significance in the adjusted model. 4 Discussion In this cohort study of patients with dementia, zinc deficiency was significantly associated with elevated 1-year all-cause mortality, with a 54% higher risk compared to patients with normal zinc levels.
