Normalization to tumor size influenced the vWF results and blood vessel counts in both CMC and FMC, although a clear trend of increased blood vessel counts in grade III compared to grade I and II CMC as well as in grade III compared to grade I/II FMC remained detectable (Additional file 10: Figure S7A, B).
