This improved cardiac function was most likely a result of reduced afterload, as there was a clear trend toward reduced systemic vascular resistance (up to 20%; not significant) within the first 8 weeks, without causing discernible effects on blood pressure or heart rate ( Figures 2 B and 2C and 2D).
