In diabetic breast cancer, a meta-analysis of 11 observational studies (5464 patients) reported that metformin exposure was associated with improved overall survival and a borderline or near-significant improvement in cancer-specific survival, supporting the hypothesis that insulin lowering can improve prognosis in insulin-resistant hosts [ 111 ].
