At the same time, there were clear differences in the size of the effect across subgroups, and some subgroups did not reach statistical significance (for example, Oceania for EBV, benign breast disease controls, and South America for BLV), indicating that these factors may contribute, at least partly, to the observed heterogeneity rather than fully account for it.
