However, when HIF-1α was inhibited, claudin 2 and claudin 3 protein expression showed a trend for downregulation, whereas their mRNA expression levels were highly significantly downregulated, indicating that claudin 2 and claudin 3 expression was regulated by the level of the intranuclear transcriptional activity of HIF-1α.
