Additionally, we identified key genes such as cyclin D2 ( CCND2 ), crucial for the G1/S transition in the cell cycle and highly significant during follicular development [ 50 , 51 ]; centromere protein K ( CENPK ), essential for vertebrate centromere assembly and chromosome segregation [ 52 ]; and GATA binding protein 6 ( GATA6 ), a critical transcriptional regulatory factor, playing a key role in ovarian follicle development [ 53 ], gradually upregulated during the developmental fate towards MII-stage ( Fig. 2c ).
