The mean serum folate increased from 7.7 ± 4.4 ng/mL at baseline to 11.0 ± 3.5 ng/mL at 60 months, consistent with effective oral folic-acid supplementation, although the change did not reach statistical significance after Bonferroni correction in the listwise analytic sample ( n = 13).
