For MCT8 , both PFOA exposure and MVU severity showed significant correlations; however, only MVU retained borderline significance after mutual adjustment, suggesting a more prominent role of underlying placental pathology in this subset.

In addition to stratification by MVU severity, when we examined direct associations between maternal serum PFOA levels and placental gene expression, Spearman’s correlation analysis revealed that PFOA concentrations were inversely correlated with CD31 and MCT8 expression, while the association with DIO3 did not reach statistical significance ( Table S14 ).
In contrast, Br-PFHxS showed a positive trend, with higher FT3 levels in T2 and T3 than in T1 (reference) ( Table S11 ). 3.2.2 Birth Weight Cord serum PFAS exposure showed significant associations with decreased birth weight ( Figure a).
