In these analyses, maternal hair mercury concentrations were inversely associated with the Psychomotor Development Index (PDI) 27 at 30 months; however, without adjustment for AA and DHA, the association did not reach statistical significance. 28 Based on a subsequent reanalysis of the same cohort data from the Seychelles Nutrition Cohort (Lynch et al., 2011 ), the CONTAM Panel (EFSA CONTAM Panel, 2012 ) concluded that at maternal hair mercury concentrations above approximately 11 mg/kg, ‘ the beneficial effects associated with maternal n‐3 long‐chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (n‐3 LCPUFAs) 29 no longer outweighed adverse associations with methylmercury exposure ’.
