Fecal SCFA concentrations were not significantly different by diagnosis or subtype, although spinal ALS showed a trend toward lower propionate. 54 This study highlights that there is heterogeneity in the microbiome early in ALS among ALS subtypes and that factors such as dysphagia can influence the microbiome.
