As the number of electron-withdrawing cyano groups increases from 0 to 2 (Zn-0CN → Zn-1CN → Zn-2CN), a clear trend is observed: the absorption maximum progressively red-shifts from 387 nm to 402 nm to 420 nm; the emission maximum similarly shifts bathochromically from 497 nm to 521 nm to 543 nm; and the fluorescence quantum yield monotonically increases from 5.8% to 7.5% to 9.2%.
