Positive early-life olfactory memory is rooted in the olfactory bulb and triggers large-scale changes beyond the olfactory system.

These recalls allowed a sustained positive memory for the childhood odorant in PLAY-rO mice compared to CTRL-rO mice, as revealed by an increased investigation time of the childhood odorant in the exploration test (one-tailed Wilcoxon test, W = 240, p = 0.0023; Fig 6H ; S6 Data ), an increased habituation slope which did not reach statistical significance (one-tailed t test, t(56) = −0.693, p = 0.246; Fig 6I ; S6 Data ), and an increased preference index (one-tailed t test, t(56) = −2.239, p = 0.015; Fig 6J ; S6 Data ) in the PLAY-rO compared to the CTRL-rO group.
