After 28 d of regeneration in the absence of innervation, for instance, the Na current den- sity was 31.8 + 5.0 mA/cm2; this was 36% less than the corresponding Na current density (50.0 + 6.0) in contralat- eral muscles regenerating in the presence of nerve terminals. This difference was only marginally significant, but it sug- gests that a later phase of NaCh aggregation might be depen- dent upon the presence of the nerve terminal.
