Of the HPV-positive samples, five displayed Bak staining and this was restricted to the lowest scoring index with only a few cells being scored positive in the entire tumour section, whilst more of the HPV negative SCCs showed staining which was often of a higher scoring index, but did not reach statistical significance in our study ( P =0.440).
