The crude odds ratio for depression among patients in the highest quartile of α -LA intake group was 0.58 (95% CI 0.38–0.87) compared with patents in the lowest quartile, and the adjusted odds ratio after controlling for the possibly associated factors was 0.50 (95% CI 0.31–0.71); a significant trend in the odds ratio for depression was observed with regard to total ω -3 FA intake ( P for trend=0.004, Table 2 and Figure 1 ).
