However, even though the GFP signal (here a combination of the intrinsic fluorescence of GFP and the antibody staining with secondary antibody conjugated to Alexa Fluor 488) is much brighter in a tightly localized domain, while the LacZ signal is more uniformly spread over a larger area, there are actually also quite significant amounts of fainter GFP signal at the periphery of the injection site.
