Analysis of the chromosomal location of 2853 genes that showed a trend in expression over the subsequent tumor stages (A/A- A/C- AC/C- C/C- C/C(N+)) ("progression genes", Additional file 1 ) revealed that genes on chromosome 18q were most frequently down-regulated and genes on chromosome 20q were most frequently up-regulated (Figure 1A ), which was expected based on our genomic data [ 21 ].
