The association with rs11986220 was marginally stronger than rs10090154 in African Americans and when modeled concurrently in the pooled sample, rs11986220 remained nominally significant (OR, 1.39; 95% CI, 1.06–1.84; p = 0.02), whereas rs10090154 did not (p = 0.18), suggesting that rs11986220 better captures the effect of the functional allele at this locus (and may be the biologically relevant allele).
