At the end of treatment, the concentrations of self monitored plasma glucose appeared lower before and after breakfast in the metformin plus insulin group than in the repaglinide plus insulin group; however, these differences in self monitored plasma glucose did not reach statistical significance (before breakfast −0.54 mmol/l, 95% CI −1.10 to 0.01, P=0.055; 90 minutes after breakfast −0.98 mmol/l, 95% CI −1.96 to 0.00, P=0.051; fig 4).
