Both lean and obese mothers were more common in the preterm group (odds ratios 1.75 (95%CI 1.02 to 3.01) and 1.41 (95% 0.92-2.15) respectively; reference category was the normal BMI group), but the overall difference did not reach statistical significance (Table 2 ).
