For p68 protein there was also an inverse association between detectable p68 protein (score>0) and expression of Δ133p53β mRNA, although the association with expression of Δ133p53α and Δ133p53γ mRNA did not reach statistical significance ( Table 1B ). p53 isoform protein expression could not be examined by immunohistochemistry due to the lack of isoform-specific antibodies. p68 siRNA knockdown results in induction of Δ133p53 expression in a p53-dependent manner Given that p68 expression is inversely associated with Δ133p53 expression in breast cancers and Δ133p53 is itself a p53 target gene ( Chen et al. , 2009 ), we considered whether p68 could regulate expression of Δ133p53.
