The baseline BMI was 34 kg/m 2 , both groups were titrated to 0.5 units/kg glargine, and fasting glucose fell similarly from ∼165 to 120 mg/dL; however, there was a nearly significant difference in A1C decrease from 8.0 to 7.3% with placebo and from 7.9 to 6.5% with exenatide, with similar frequency of hypoglycemia and with weight increasing by 4 kg with placebo but no weight change with exenatide.
