One short-term trial of 1 month, with 115 patients included, compared tobramycin and colistin and showed a trend toward greater improvement in FEV 1 in the tobramycin group. 54 However, the use of one agent over the other was not favored in a large meta-analysis. 55 In this meta-analysis, the incidence of antibiotic resistance with inhaled maintenance therapy was assessed and was of low-frequency occurrence.
