Subjects receiving the lower dose (15 g day –1 ) showed a clear trend toward reduced levels of activated CD4 + /CD25 + T cells (median (min–max)) after 12 weeks compared with baseline levels (from 0.36% (0.04–1.9) to 0.22% (0.02–1.25), P =0.09), whereas the higher-dose group (30 g day –1 ) showed a statistically significant reduction compared with baseline (from 0.52% (0.01–7.21) to 0.27% (0.02–1.54), P <0.01).
