A recent systematic review and meta-analysis of basal and premixed regimens included four of the aforementioned studies in a pooled analysis of HbA1c and weight, demonstrating that the twice-daily premixed insulin regimens reduced HbA1c by an additional 0.45% (CI 0.19–0.70%), but with an additional weight gain of 1.3 kg which did not reach statistical significance (CI −0.4 to 3 kg) (21, 28, 29, 30, 31) .
