Regular electrofishing surveys undertaken by the Environment Agency (EA; the national regulatory body in England and Wales) suggest that numbers of brown trout within the River Dart are significant and stable, although there has been a negative trend since records began in the 1960s ( Steele 1996 ; EA 2001 ).
