Some of the CpG sites with nominally significant (p<6.7×10 −5 ) differences in methylation between HA and LA are close to genes that are differentially expressed in response to hypoxia; these genes include: toll-like receptor 6 ( TLR6) [57] , mif two 3 homolog 1 ( SUMO1) [27] ; phosphodiesterase 4A ( PDE4A) [58] and human immunodeficiency virus type I enhancer binding protein 2 ( HIVEP2 ) [42] .
