Timing of pandemic onset The onset date of the first SARI hospitalization across Chilean regions was associated with population size, with more populous regions experiencing earlier pandemic onset than low population regions (Spearman rho = −0.61, P = 0.02), but this correlation did not reach statistical significance using A/H1N1-positive SARI hospitalizations (Spearman rho = −0.4, P = 0.14).
