Importantly, a highly significant diagnosis-by-genotype interaction localized to a large lateral prefrontal cortex (PFC) region ( Table 1 ): whereas healthy Val homozygotes showed a significant positive relationship between resting hippocampal and prefrontal rCBF, healthy Met carriers had a trend for an inverse relationship between these regions; in contrast, patients evidenced the opposite pattern, with Met carriers, but not Val homozygotes, demonstrating a strong positive hippocampal-PFC relationship ( Figure 2 ).
