Results In Experiment 1, for pleasantness ratings, an effect of “Age” (F[1.36] = 6.693, p = 0.01) associated to an effect of “Hedonic valence” (F[1,36] = 370.990, p<0.0001), and a nearly significant “Age-by-Hedonic valence” interaction (F[1,36] = 3.039, p = 0.08) were observed, suggesting that whereas no significant effect of “Age” occurred for unpleasant odors (p>0.05), older adults rated pleasant odors as less pleasant than did young adults (p = 0.004) ( Fig. 1a.i ).
