This effect was significant ( P < 0.05 Holm–Sidak post hoc test) for all levels of hypoxia in the presence of extracellular calcium and 2.5% oxygen and below in the absence of extracellular calcium (Dunnett’s post hoc test; note that although data obtained at 5% oxygen failed to reach statistical significance in this test, an increase in Rh123 fluorescence was seen in 10 of the 11 recordings).
