In a sub-analysis, we also excluded patients with the more severe underlying physical disease (MRC≥3, previous stroke, heart failure or diabetes mellitus) and found that patients with depressive symptoms had a 1.91 (95% CI, 0.76–4.78; P = .166) times higher risk of death than patients without these symptoms, albeit the results did not reach statistical significance.
