Although this did not reach statistical significance due to the limitation in mouse numbers feasible in this type of experiment, the data support the results obtained with Ifnar1 −/− mice, suggesting that IFN-I activity during pneumococcal infection controls transition of pneumococci from the lung into the bloodstream.
