A significant trend was observed in which smoker subjects with chronic periodontitis exhibited an increase in serum and saliva NO levels compared to those in nonsmoker subjects with chronic periodontitis, and in turn nonsmoker subjects with chronic periodontitis had greater NO levels in serum and saliva than the healthy controls.
