The overall results suggested an inverse association of dietary methionine intake and risk of CRC, and the association was borderline significant according to the fixed-effects model (RR = 0.89, 95% CI = 0.79 - 1.00), but not random-effects model (RR = 0.89, 95% CI = 0.77 - 1.03).

When we limited the analysis to the four studies [ 12 , 15 - 17 ] that followed up for >10 years, women with highest methionine intake had 14% (the random effects model RR = 0.86, 95% CI = 0.74-1.01) borderline non-significant ( P for test = 0.06) lower risk of CRC.
