This suggests that at least some of the rats may be becoming resistant to the leptin treatment by the end of the study, which is supported by the fact that at the time the animals were killed, mean hypothalamic phosphorylated STAT3 (tyr705) levels were elevated compared with controls (control: 100 ± 7.8; leptin: 129.3 ± 10.1% control; P = 0.07), but this rise did not reach statistical significance.
