The patients were significantly older than the controls (66.6, SD 8.6 years versus 58.3, SD 6.8 years, p<0.001), and MMP-7 was significantly correlated with age in both patients (r = 0.22, p = 0.003) and controls (r = 0.41, p = 0.052), although the correlation in healthy controls did not reach statistical significance.
