The median dose decreased significantly over year of diagnosis groups from 36 Gy between 1960 and 1980 to 34 Gy between 1981 and 1985 and 30 Gy between 1986 and 1992 (Kruskal–Wallis test with 6 d.f.: P <0.0001); hence, there is some confounding between dose and duration of follow-up, although a significant trend in SIR by years at risk was still seen in an analysis restricted to the subset of 1401 patients receiving <32 Gy.
