When compared with WT animals, mice with a targeted disruption of the Per1 gene showed a modest increase in spontaneous tumorigenesis, which was manifested in males only (4 out 16 mice [25%] developed tumors that were diagnosed as lymphomas and lymphosarcomas [50% each]; however, this difference did not reach statistical significance ( P = 0.098, Fisher exact test).
