After further adjustment for educational level, smoking, BMI, lipid-lowering medication use, cardiovascular disease and diabetes, higher HDL remained significantly associated with an increased risk of early (OR = 1.71, P = 0.008) or any AMD (OR = 1.83, P = 0.002) and tended to be associated with increased risk of late AMD, but did not reach statistical significance (OR = 2.58, P = 0.06) especially after Bonferroni correction.
