This might suggest that CD138 + splenic B-1a cells predominantly generate anti-microbial as opposed to self-reactive antibodies; however, in NZM2410 mice V H 5 is also increased in anti-nuclear antibodies ( 30 ) and among splenic B-1a cells V H 5 is utilized more frequently by CD138 + B-1a cells as compared to CD138 − B-1a cells, although this difference did not reach statistical significance.
