As shown in Figure 4a , patients with higher mean HbA1c and lower SD HbA1c, as well as patients with lower mean HbA1c and higher SD HbA1c, tended to be at increased risk of incident CVD; however, these associations did not reach statistical significance ( P = 0.143 and 0.112, respectively).
