The results of this analysis, presented in figure 5 , show that for both species there is a clear trend in the group of genes exhibiting highest rate increment, which is very significantly enriched in regulatory proteins (spanning from transcription regulators and proteins involved in chromatin structure modification and organization to protein and metabolism regulators), development regulators (axis specification, lymphoid development, and skeletal muscle development), and poor in enzymes from the general metabolism, transporters, etc., whereas the least accelerated genes present a completely different trend ( supplementary fig.
